100 Greatest Guitar Solos

Every guitarist has opinions on what some of the greatest recorded guitar solos are. While there are many that are commonly regarded as "great", there are lots of others that don't get as much attention. Not too long ago, the editors of Guitar World magazine put together a reader's poll, to find out what their readers considered to be the best guitar solos of all time. The results surely reflect the magazine's demographic (no jazz guitar solos, for example), but no one can argue the following 100 selections boast some great guitar work.

What follows is the list of all 100 songs selected, listed with the guitarist who played the solo, the band who released the album, and the album name.

  1. All the usual suspects then...Nobody ever heard "Rock my Plimsoll" on the "b" side of the 1967 45 "Tallyman" by the original Jeff Beck Group, then??? I guarantee you would be blown away!!
And also, virtually anything by the Mark I version of Wishbone Ash. What about "Mechanical World" by Spirit featuring the highly under-rated Randy California? And the amazing solo at the end of "Black Sheep" by SRC...Quackenbush Rules! And a real Speaker Shredder, "Wild & Exciting" by Earth & Fire. And that's just a start! Go out and get yourself some real solos..a large percentage of this lot couldn't hold a plectrum up to these real classics! And don't forget to dig out "Time Has Come Today" by The Chambers Brothers. If that solo doesn't bring shivers and goose-bumps down your spine, then you're probably already dead!!
